Would affirm that the House condemns Iran for its threats to annihilate the U.S. and Israel, and for its incitement to genocide against Israelis; supports all means of persuading Iran to stop its nuclear program; and reaffirms the U.S. bond with Israel and pledges to ensure Israel receives the military and economic assistance it needs to address the Iranian threat.
Gohmert introduced the same resolution in 2010 to coincide with the Christians United for Israel (CUFI) lobbying effort on Capitol Hill. The resolution echoes two tenets of the ‘CUFI Pledge,’ namely the obligation to support Israel’s right to defend itself by any means and to stand with Israel whenever necessary until attacks from its enemies and terrorists cease.
In addition to Gohmert, thirty four of this resolution’s 45 cosponsors are affiliated with the Tea Party. CUFI declared itself the ‘soul of the Tea Party’ in 2011 and began lobbying members of Congress associated with the Tea Party to support continued U.S. military aid to Israel even as they sought drastic reductions in foreign aid.
