Recognition of Jerusalem as the Capital of the State of Israel Act

H.R.2846
Introduced:
July 26, 2013
113
First
August 16, 2013
Referred to House (sub)committee

This bill would move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Specifically, it would amend existing U.S. law (Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995) to remove the president’s ability to perpetually delay the relocation of the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. The existing law requires a presidential waiver every 6 months.

The legislation’s core group of cosponsors was drawn from the congressional Israel Allies caucus, a bipartisan alliance of 34 legislators. They were supported by the Israel Allies Foundation, an international coalition of elected officials who support each other’s public efforts to ‘mobilize political support for Israel based on Judeo-Christian values.’

11 cosponsors (8R, 3D).

Last major action: 8/16/13 referred to House Subcmte. on Middle East and North Africa.
